Divorce is a very stressful event. It is a very confusing time. The good news is that one day the
transition will be over, and you will have
passed through it.
This web site will attempt to answer some of the FAQs (frequently asked

How
much will my divorce cost?
|
1. The Court will charge a filing
fee ($160 if there are children; $125 if there are no
children). |
2. Attorneys fees. Some attorneys charge a flat fee, some attorneys charge an
hourly fee. My office charges a $295 flat fee if the
divorce is uncontested (husband and wife sign). Most divorces
are uncontested. An uncontested divorce saves both husband and wife time,
and stress and cost. |
3. Of course, sometimes people do not reach agreement. If the divorce if
contested, my office charges an hourly fee of $175 per hour, and not a
flat fee. That is because each case will be different. In a contested divorce,
the total fee will depend on how much work is involved. If you
discuss the matter with me, I should be able to give you a ball park idea of how
much your contested divorce will cost. Again, most divorces are uncontested. |

When you hire a lawyer (or hire a physician or buy a refrigerator or buy
anything), sometimes the price that you hear on the phone or see in an ad is
only part of the story. The merchant sometimes
adds on various fees. When you call a lawyer for a
quote, you should find out the whole cost. Find out the total amount
that you will have to pay. The above amounts are the
total for an uncontested divorce when both parties sign.
|
You can break this cost into two payments.
